Budgetting

Hello everyone

How much would you all say you spend approximately per week? This isn't including bills etc, just day to day things like travel, lunch, snacks, cigarettes (if you smoke), and maybe including a night out etc.

I really need to start budgetting properly, be interesting to see what others spend....

Any replies will be appreciated x

Well I get my petrol at the weekend, so no fares - lunch I take in, same goes for any snacks - I don't smoke - and what's a 'night out'? :rotfl:

    I don't really spend much, do I?

(We do go for the occasional meal out, but nowhere flashy and expensive, say around £25 - still trying to be a DFW!)

I try to be like royalty and not carry cash either - if I haven't got it, I can't spend it!
    :j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

You both do so well, at the moment i'm probably spending around £70 onwards .

From the start of the week this is going to be cut down dramatically, i'm going to withdraw £50 out the cashpoint on a Monday and make this last me the whole week.

Really need to start with quitting the cigarettes, this shall be done from tomorrow, and all the snacky things at work shall be replaced with things from home instead.
  • I think you can't generalise on things like this - different people have different expenses / needs / lifestyles. How about you keep a spending diary to see what you spend (and be really strict about including everything). There's a great one online at www.spendingdiary.com that you can itemise everything and see where you spend too much (mine is sweets and magazines). Then you can see how you can cut down and you will be aware of areas where you need to be careful.

20pounds max, and this would be a big week where we took the kids swimming and went to the soft play, normally only do one everyother week at the minute, don't go out at the moment for nights out, if we have a day out its to the beach or cycling and we take a packed lunch, oh does not have money for lunch and if he doesn't want to make a packed lunch (he doesn't cos he says he'll eat it int he car on the way to work!) that's his problem, although he does normally get home by 3pm latest and has a snack then.
Most of our weekly spends used to be car park fees but now we rarely go into town and cycle in if the weather is nice.

Yeah i know, just wanted to see what people spend their money on weekly etc. I do keep a spending diary, hence why i realise that on some days i can spend the absolute minimum and on others it all goes to pot, think a little willpower is what is needed here :o.

You could also try posting on Moozie / PAP's "What will you spend" thread each day / week. It really makes you think about a purchase if you know you have to confess to it!

Yep,i do this. Each week mine can differ depending on my outgoings etc, although i have realised that i need to be more strict with myself now.

I allocate £100 a week. This includes the main food shop and top-ups like bread and milk etc so for two that normally works out at apx £45-50 per week. Then there's £8.50 bus fare, £3.40 gym (you can tell I obviously go a lot :o ), £5 lottery and £1.12 for the one day I don't take lunch to work. Occasionally I go over but if I'm not too extravagant I can normally save £25-30 of that £100.

I don't really count it now. I have moved into a new flat, so needing to buy new things randomly.

    But generally:
Takeaways - £6/fortnight - treating myself these days. Used to be 2/year
Meals out - £0. Eating out alone is one of the worst things anybody can do.
Nights out - I don't go out, but on average probably £5/month for socialising
Holidays - I haven't had one for 12 years... thinking about it though, £50 return flights and stay free with relatives
Gadgets/packages - none. I have a 4-channel portable TV at the moment, going to get a freeview box this month though.
    Mobile phone - £8/month + 50p for calls (I pay per call/text, just don't know anybody)
    Food - generally £10/week + the takeaway
Work lunches - included in that £10
New clothes - started with none 3 months ago, so having to completely buy everything from scratch, so at the moment maybe £10/month
    Petrol - £45/month to/from work + £5/month shopping/misc

Generally, I go to work, I come home. I live cheaply. In fact my problem is learning how to spend :(
