Switching from GB Energy

My tarrif runs out with GB on the 12th Oct. I am wanting to switch now to avoid any expensive standard tarrif rates. I am in credit with GB £51.51 the credited amount is more than my monthly direct debit £40.

Can anyone please give me some insight and advice into what happens when switching from GB or another supplier and how I receive my credit and whether or not my last bill will be paid through direct debit or the credit in my account.

Thank you

Your supplier is required to notify you within the period 49 to 42 days before your contract end date that your fixed tariff is coming to an end. On receipt of this communication, you are free to start the switching process. You will not be liable for any exit fees.

Your new supplier manages all parts of the transfer. You have a cooling off period of 14 days and the actual transfer can take between 3 and 21 days. Your new supplier will give you a forecast transfer date and ask you for meter readings. These go to a third-party for verification and they are then passed back to the new and old suppliers to open and close your accounts. From the date of transfer, the losing supplier has 6 weeks to prepare a Final Bill - many take less time than this. You will then get any credit back within 14 to 28 days depending on how much you are owed.

When you switch, it might seem that you are paying 2 suppliers for the same energy. This will not happen but it does take time for the suppliers to get their 'ducks in a row'.

There is no need to tell your present supplier that you are leaving. They will also ignore any meter reading that you provide during the transfer time.

The process is exactly the same as when you switched to GB Energy in Oct 2016

Thank you for clearing this up. Once the switching takes place and the account is closed. Is my DD cancelled and my final bill taken from the credit remaining? Or do I have to cancel my DD myself?

    Thank you
