ULSTER BANK e-savings account>>>WARNING !!!

REF: ulster bank 1.25% e-savings online account
ULSTER bank have a serious issue in sending customers the card reader and card necessary to move ANY money out of your e-savings account. you cant take anything out whatsoever without the devices and they simply ignore you when you explain they have not arrived and you are therefore locked out of your money. they have admitted there is a problem but have no solution and no timeline.
well done RBS, you must be the only bank in history to offer an instant access simple savings account which has no means by which a customer can take money out. this is currently the best instant cash savings rate in the UK (as featured here on MSE) but it is of no use whatsoever if they simply wont let you get your money back...
i have spent 2 weeks on the phone, spoken to over 30 of their staff in belfast (ulster bank), leicester and bolton (RBS group complaints) and still they can not resolve getting me access to my own lawful liquid asset cash. the staff in ulster have a totaly hostile and indifferent attitude and will assist you in removing your cash via any other method. i signed up online for this account mid july and as of today, 3/8/17, ulster bank has not ever given me a means by which to withdraw my money.
even this morning, they were telling new customers that there are no withdrawl issues when there clearly are.
post Fred the Shred, RBS is clearly still a deeply troubled bank and just not worth the risk or effort in dealing with them.
MSE editorial team.......please note my comments and alter your feature articles on this account so that MSE readers are aware.
this seems to be a growing issue at both natwest and ulster bank as they all use the same RBS systems and protocols.
good luck everybody !!

I recently opened the Ulster Bank savings account and whilst I have not yet received my card reader or card, I have been able to withdraw money without any problem at all via their banking app.0

There's already a comprehensive thread on this, featuring many similar complaints: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/56681390

You've not tried to withdraw more than £250 in a day then...

Send money instantly to your saved Anytime Internet Banking payee's
!
Simply visit the 'Payments' option on one of your accounts, scroll through the names to select the correct payee and just enter in the amount. After that all you have to do is click 'Send' and the money will leave your account instantly!
!
Please note that in order to send a payment in this way with your mobile app you will need to have made the first payment to this payee through Anytime Internet Banking first, which will involve using your card reader. "0 -
@John Gerrard
I'm having the same problems (so I don't support them at all) but to be strictly accurate you can access your money... by writing to them.
At least that is what they say, whether in practice they possess the processes or competence to act on a letter is unlikely IMHO.
Plus I always feel post with your signature and bank details included is too risky.0 -
You're quite right that you can only withdraw £250 per day via the banking app, I was just responding to the OP who had stated that without the card reader it was not possible to withdraw ANY money at all from the Ulster Bank savings account - which is just not true.0

I must admit can't remember the last time I wrote a cheque out, never-mind posted one out!!
However, I do agree with soulsaver. Unfortunately, We are in a different world today and I too get very annoyed when banks write out to you with relevant bank details etc in the letter.
There are many groups nowadays who target bank postal items etc. and being someone who has had statements go missing in the post, (even though I requested on-line statements only) I am very wary of who has them and do feel somehow violated, knowing someone, somewhere, knows a lot about me and my spending habits!
Unless something like this has happened to you it is difficult to perhaps understand! But I am now very protective of handing over banking details. Hence why I have gotten so annoyed with Ulster Bank, on the main thread, for their 1.25% account!0 -
I have a supply of every day tinfoil hats for those that need them. Not sure how I could get them to you though because it could be dangerous to give anyone your name and address. For that reason, you also cannot come and pick them up as I couldn't give you my name and address.0

How very grown up of you to take other people's concerns so flippantly. Let's hope you never have any of your banking details go astray in the post!
Why don't you put your real name, address and your bank account details on here, if they are not useful to thieves!
Keep your tin foil hats yourself - you obviously need them!0 -
So you don't do cheques then.
Correct, I haven't put a cheque in the post in 20 years..0
