Hi Guys
We are staying in Grasmere for a week early October and looking for things to do?
We love walking, always go for day tips on hikes but with staying for a week we want to explore the lakes a little more.
We have a car and are a couple.
Couple of things I have seen online so far is a visit to Ullswater and do a cruise(already done Windermere a few times)
Castlerigg stone circle.
Not sure what other things there is as days out, maybe train ride, castle etc?
thanks

There are two excellent preserved train rides.
Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway is at the foot of Lake Windermere and is full sized railway sometimes using steam locos.
Ravenglass & Eskdale is on the West coast and is a narrow gauge (small sized) preserved railway with steam locos.
Also at Lakeside is the aquarium and near Haverthwaite is the motor museum which is also excellent.0 -
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
If you time your visit right at Muncaster Castle you can watch the Kites being fed.
Arnside, walk the shore and have lunch at Ramblers. Ramblers is v. small and closes on Tuesday but has good fresh food.
The walk across Levens Park in the autumn is beautiful because of the colour of the trees. You could also visit Levens Hall .
The RSPB at Leighton Moss has Otters, Marsh Harriers etc etc.
In Kendal have lunch at either Baba Ganoush deli or Brew Brothers and visit the castle, walk down the river or go shopping.
Have a nice visit0 -

As well as Kendal, it's not much further south to reach Lancaster, either on the M6 on along the A6, both very scenic routes. Lancaster Castle is open to the public, and has a lot of history both as a Castle and prison. Lots more besides in town, which is a v.short walk from the Castle
You could also call in to Morecambe, either on the way there or back. The town has little to offer, but the promenade is very long, wide, and the views across the Bay to Grange-over-Sands and the South Lakeland Hills are second to none.....and there's also the Eric Morecambe statue which offers a great photo opportunity with the Bay as the background.
If you wanted to leave the car behind for the day, there are regular trains from Windermere to Lancaster [40 minutes], and Lancaster to Morecambe [12 minutes]. Lancaster train station is a 5 minute walk from the town centre, and Morecambe train station is just off the promenade.0 -
If you are going to Morecambe a visit to the iconic Midland Hotel for coffee either in the Rotunda bar or if it is not too cold outside on the terrace is a brilliant place to soak up the views PompeyPete was talking about. We have also sat and watched the sunset over Morecambe Bay from the bar whilst drinking hot chocolate and if you get a good sunset it is second to none!0

At Keswick catch the boat across to the foot of Catbells, and then take the low-level path [about 100ft] above the road towards Grange. When it drops back to the road return to Keswick via the boardwalk [water levels allowing] and the road on the other side of the Lake. Stunning views of Derwentwater and Keswick.0
