HSBC won't refund unauthorised transactions.

HELP!
I have 2 unauthorised transactions from my current HSBC account totaling £900. This has completely emptied my account and left me nothing to pay my bills!! The transactions have been used at Betfair London. I have never had an account with Betfair and do not bet.
HSBC have refused to refund my money or even investigate this matter stating that they are not allowed to due to the transactions being betting related. They have advised me to contact Betfair.
I have contacted Betfair who have told me to contact the police. I know that the police will look into this .... but they cannot get my money back for me.
I have no idea how anyone has got hold of my details - I have not lost my card and have not compromised my PIN so can only assume that either my card has been cloned or my details taken online.
Can anyone advised on what to do next? It's only been 3 days so I cannot go to the Ombudsman. Can HSBC just wipe their hands of this?
Kind regards
Annie

So HSBC haven't even offered to cancel your old cards and issue new ones?0

I'm finding it unusual that they won't even investigate them as fraud. If you used other betting sites I'd maybe understand their position but they should at least investigate the possibility.
Do as the poster above says. If they won't investigate as fraud, ask to log a complaint, then if that doesn't get resolved to your satisfaction, you can then take it to the FOS.0 -
What I'm confused about is why you'd post this on a PPI reclaim forum?0

Complaints about unauthorised betting company transactions generally rule against the person more often than not. FOS ombudsman decisions show 6 ruled in favour of the account holder and 56 against.
The FOS contacts the betting companies and sufficient information is checked and in most cases, the evidence points to being that person. Mainly as the winnings from any bets made would be paid back to the same account that the money was drawn on. So, there would be no financial gain by a fraudster.
HSBC should still take the allegation seriously and go through its process. Are you sure it hasnt?
The banks routinely contact the service provider to get information and in most cases the information matches the account holder.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
