When on a long car journey with the grandchildren we play FAFF BOB & SAM

It’s a follow on from the ‘Yellow car game’ quite a few years ago

FAFF = Find a Fiat Five hundred

BOB = Bagsie one Beatle

SAM = Spot a Mini


It all started when I seemed to be seeing a Fiat 500 every couple of minute.


There are probably other options, but trying to keep track of three scores at a time is enough for me.


When younger I remember counting caravans, on our way to Newquay... I was good at that (I should have been, I was 23)

A couple of years ago my wife and I changed to rules of punchbuggy to punchdacia, not as catchy admittedly. Had to stop as they became more popular - it was getting into the realms of spousal abuse.

BOB is going to be hard - there's only 2 (or 3 if you count Pete) left and one of those isn't in the UK.

Now - if you're spotting Volkswagens - is there a scoring system? Classic Beetles should be worth more than New Beetles and 2nd generation New Beetles seem to be rarer than 1st gen (mostly because all the people who bought them for a cutesy image went over to the New 500). Deduct points if they have 53 on the door.


Ditto for Minis - double points for an Issigonis design (triple for a Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet) and deduct points if driven by an estate agent.
