Any thoughts?
They can if you still cant do the job after "reasonable adjustments".0 -
I have ME, and had to give up work about 4 years ago. I was working 3 months then due to feeling exhausted working full time, I went to part time, 20 hours per week for 3 weeks, when I crashed and burned. I have been Incapacity Benefit ever since.
Do you belong to Action for ME? I find it a very useful organization, and they also have a phone help line to help with benefits etc. Are you able to work? If your employer at the moment thinks you are not well enough to work you may want to reassess your health and your care needs.
The DLA is a different game. I used to type for a friend who was the Benefits adviser for our local ME Support Group. Most people where turned down for DLA and she always encouraged people to appeal, she would go with them to the hearing or tribunal if necessary. IF you are turned down, appeal, you have 28 days. The extra money for care or mobility is NOT means tested, and is very useful. Remember the government don't want to throw money at Joe Public, he wants you to apply, and if you get turned down, he counts on apathy.......
Good luck with your health AND your DLA application, I was turned down for two years before I started to get the Lower Part Care (£17.10 per week) When on a fixed (low ) income every penny counts.Today, my BEST is good enough.0 -
Hi,
I've heard from my employer again, and they are going to terminate my employment on grounds of incapability, as one of the contributors mentioned, in 4 weeks time unless I can start working again.
They have offered me a package of one months wages and all my holiday paid. As I've mentioned before due to my reduced hours (4 per week) I've not paid enough NI for a couple of years.
So if I understand correctly no NI contributions will stop me claiming SSP and incapacity benefit and contribution based JSA.
As my husband works full time I will not be able to claim income based JSA either.
Will me losing my job also affect the £40 or so child tax credit we get per month?
Christabell, sorry to hear you to have horrible ME. I do belong to Action for ME, tried using them to claim a couple of years ago, but as I've only worked part time for quite afew years, got two kids to look after, I never seem to qualify due to lack of NI contributions. Good luck with your health too.
Regards
