Disposal of cigarette lighter fuel can

I want to dispose of my cigarette lighter as well as a can of lighter fuel which is mostly unused. Can I simply put both these in the household rubbish bin? There is the usual Recycle icon on the can but no other guidance.

    Really ?

Lighter - goes in the general waste bin. Fuel cannister - empty it, then stick it in the recycling bin. Or have a bit of fun - get a bonfire going, then stick it on the top.

I have an old lighter fuel can and use it for one of these(£1 end of season).

    Ebe is joking......I hope!

As kids, we'd often sneak into the town dump, which wasn't permanently manned and always permanently on fire somewhere. Even as 10 year olds, we knew to stay clear of the part that was burning, because of the occasional projectiles that would come hurtling out when aerosol cans exploded.

We liked explosions and often made a few of our own, but not ones that happened randomly, without warning!
