Changing tariff with same supplier mid-contract

Most companies(in my experience) allow you to change tariff, within the company, without invoking the penalty.
However a problem occurs if you change to a tariff without penalty and then immediately switch to another supplier.
Over the past 2 years, Ovo did charge and then didn't, and I am not sure what they do now. Zog most certainly does charge for a change of tariff. The Big 6 tend not to charge. If in doubt, change to the SVT and then initiate a switch to A N Other Supplier. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Some suppliers do make that charge and some don't, for example Eon allow you to change tariff without any penalty - I know because I've done it three times including just last month after rejoining them following two and a half months with Robin Hood Energy..
Spot on warhead. Our exit fees don't apply when moving from one E.ON tariff to another no matter how many of these internal switches are done. They only apply when changing supplier outside of the renewal period (49 calendar days before a fixed tariff end date until 20 working days after).
Only one of the tariffs currently listed on our website has exit fees. This is the Saver Fixed 1 Year v12. All the rest don't have these fees although customers will still be on past tariffs, some of which did have exit fees. Details will be on the individual tariff descriptions.
Malc“Official Company Representative
I am an official company representative of E.ON. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
OP, see post #6 re savings. It may be 'cheaper' than staying on your current deal for a few months then going on to variable, but not cheaper if you wait until the end of your current deal then switch penalty free. If the company are telling you that they'll charge the exit fee, then it sounds pretty clear they will.0

This was my understanding too - but like others have said it must be in the t&c'sMost companies(in my experience) allow you to change tariff, within the company, without invoking the penalty.
