EdF are going to leave us without electricity for 6 weeks - moving supply

!!!!!!? They are supplying the electricity. It is the house owner who wants the meter moved, not the supplier. Read my previous link. OP has to inform the supplier of their intended works, they approve, or amend then you are given a date. I assume OP rang Monday wanting job done Tuesday. In hope!I would go back to EDF and argue that 6 weeks is not 'a reasonable time', and therefore you believe they are in breach of the Guaranteed Standards of Performance especially as you have been proactive in advising them of the work you are carrying out.0 -

OP did everything EDF asked, then EDF screwed it all up.0 -
Yes, I gave them plenty of notice and the DNO is attending in over 4 weeks time.
It's all sorted - EdF were pretty honest about it and said that they just couldn't do anything as the engineers who move meters (and who are seemingly contracted by all suppliers - so moving supplier wouldn't have helped) are fully booked with the Smart Meter roll out. They held their hands up and provided me with the ombudsman's details! However, a helpful manager managed to book it in as an emergency so that I wouldn't be without electricity. Phew!
Just to clarify in relation to Blackbeard's post in case anyone ever needs to move supply - WPD are a DNO, the meters are now owned by the suppliers not the DNOs and so they, nor any electrician acting lawfully, can touch them. Probably not usually a problem except at the moment with Smart Meters. In retrospective I should have ignored Edf's advice and booked in with them first and the DNO second.
Thanks again for all the help.0 -
I said earlier get a better electrician. An electrician can work around the meter being moved, in the first instance, set up a temporary supply while the work is done from the current meter position. Then when the meter is moved, come and fit the supply in its new place.vintage_beanpole wrote: »Just to clarify in relation to Blackbeard's post in case anyone ever needs to move supply - WPD are a DNO, the meters are now owned by the suppliers not the DNOs and so they, nor any electrician acting lawfully, can touch them. I will stick with my previous remark about not using an architect to oversee knocking walls down and things. I'll pass one on Friday near where I live, and boy is that place a mess!Blackbeard_of_Perranporth wrote: »PPPPPPP.
That's about it!
And for others considering not using an architect or other supervisor, here is something any search engine can bring up on the topic.

a) the electrician is willing to work on live tails (or break the seal on the main fuse) and
b) the wall that the meter is sitting is not being removed by the works.0 -
Erm, who said I was using an architect?! I'm not. And the wall is coming down so working around somewhat difficult.
Anyway... as I said, it's all sorted.0 -
I take it OP is a qualified builder!vintage_beanpole wrote: »Erm, who said I was using an architect?! I'm not. And the wall is coming down so working around somewhat difficult.

I await their return ...0
