Find me a job/career

Please!

I left education at 16, and have done a fair few jobs since.
I'm now in my early 30's and I've got itchy feet, I'd love to earn more to enjoy my free time more, and do something a bit different, but I've got no idea what.

I currently work as a post-person.

I love working alone and outdoors, and thats pretty much my only wishes.

Any thoughts on either jobs I should look out for or careers I could look at training in?

Thank you.

    Traffic warden?
  • I do keep looking at traffic warden jobs, i'd imagine that even a senior traffic warden would be working outdoors as oppose to office based..but I'm not sure I could deal with being so hated!

The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Groundsman eg for a rugby/football club.

A garden maintenance person eg a business park will contract a firm tocutthe grass, cut hedges etc, maybe garden maintenance is the wrong term but its late.

Daft as it may seem, they normally want people with experience to be sports groundsmen (women). I wanted to become a trainee green keeper when I was younger, but the waiting list was ridiculous.
I reckon the OP could try to start up their own business, putting out flyers and all that. A couple of guys in our village did it for years, and they were charging £20 an hour for basic gardening services, not even landscaping.

Good point, didnt know if they would train someone up.
  • You need to visit any shop, local business, and meet to local place. This is better idea for you, I also suggest to friends and they are got good decision for itself. May be you have to do free work for some times for learn but continue your work.

    Long distance lorry driver?
  • Thanks for the replies so far.

From the jobs I've seen advertised gardening/grounds work doesn't pay any more than my current job.

Self employed would be great, but I couldn't leave my current job without something secure.
