Strange ebay refund request

I bought an item off ebay over a month ago and out of the blue I received a message from the seller yesterday saying that they've responded to my refund request and could I send the "faulty" item back as they've actioned the refund.

The thing is I've not raised any request for a refund, the item is working perfectly and I have no record of a refund in my paypal account. I replied to the seller stating the above and heard nothing until again today where they've sent me another message stating that their paypal shows a refund has been paid. All I could to is reply and repeat that I've not requested a refund and I've not received a refund.

Any ideas what could be going on here, is the seller trying a scam or are they being scammed themselves? The value of the item itself is only £7 so not something I want to be wasting my time over.

I would reply and say, you have not requested a refund and have not been refunded. No issues with your purchase did they click the wrong username?

Would ignore. Either a scam or a mistake. Either way ignore.
