Real emergency-cant open my friday night bottle of wine!

Cleverly used my last few debenhams vouchers (nectar points) to buy a reduced bottle opener in the Debenhams blue cross sale.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

its the type that work (or dont work) through pressure.
You insert the spike (like a long needle) into the cork then pump up the pressure.

I dont know how to do this and cant work out-do you insert the needle ALL the way through the cork,or just an inch or so in.
Its got the name wine gourmet on it-I think I have bought a pup!

Anyone know how these things work? Serves me right for buying a gadget.

Am not really desperate (she lies),but this bottle of wine is staring at me,and I quite fancy a glass tonight.

I hope you manage to get it out! Staring at an unopened bottle on a Friday night must be murder!

I've broken more openers than I care to remember until I found this one. It's generally known as The Waiter's Friend. It's the best one I've ever had and it was 49p in Asda! (I keep 1 spare!)

We had one back a few years ago and you pushed the needle right through the cork near the centre and then pumped and out it popped..I would have thought it would tend to break the glass if it were inserted between the cork and the glass.

push the cork in with your thumb ;)
  • This made me laugh. I had a similar panic when i couldnt open i bottle of wine. The corkscrew had got stuck in the drawer, something jammed the drawer. Anyway in a panic i phoned my mother and she said push the cork through with a screwdriver and leave it in the bottle. It worked and now i no longer panic about not getting in my wine. So there you are a useless tip if the corkscrew doesnt work, and if you put a clean hankie inside the bottle it pulls out the bits if there are any floaters.

Hope you get it open :)

Me too, it's just not worth the trauma of not being able to open it.
