I would much appreciate any help with the best way to transfer from Shannon Airport to Ennis. Have taken advantage of Ryanairs nice cheapo flights, find a lovely 19th century pub to stay in, just wondering the best way to transfer from the airport to ennis. Any help much appreciated

Cheapest I guess would be to take the buseireann bus from the airport direct to Ennis. Think it takes about 45 mins.
Timetable is here

Your best bet is take the Bus Eireann 051 which is a few mins walk from the arrivals exit in Shannon (to the left of arrivals).
There's a couple of bus bays there - though there's 2 051s - the one that goes Cork-Galway and the Galway-Cork. Get the Cork-Galway bus and that will stop in Ennis Station (bus and train station). There's one every hour from 7.25am and generally a reliable service (i use them all the time).
you can view the timetable here (.pdf):

and more general timetables for return and other routes:

hope that helps!0 -
I regular fly to Shannon to visit relatives just south of Galway city, when I drive I it takes me about an hour and Ennis is about half way so about half an hour. if you are not going to hire a car and drive the bus is very good
Just near Shannon airport is Bunratty Castle which is a rebuilt village with houses etc from the past 100 years or so and I often pop in on my way. I love it and it gets you into the Irish mood to start your holidayLoretta0 -
Can you give us the name of this pub souns goodLoretta0

Im stopping at the Queens in Ennis.......fingers crossed, it looks good and lively! Anyone have an idea how much a taxi would cost?0

Taxi and Hackney Fares are dependant on the distance... previously taxis could charge whatever they want but there's tighter regulation of them... Using a hackney, the distance of 2km/ around 3.5 miles (my house to work) would cost €8 (I get discount on that for being a regular with one firm).
Here's some info from the taxi and hackney regulator on prices - gives a guideline for what you could be charged (and also the "hidden" prices such as luggage and call out charges):
http://www.taxireg.ie/index.jsp?1nID=93&2nID=94&3nID=94&4nID=103&5nID=103&6nID=103&pID=103&nID=137
Oh and the taxi/hackney should also have a fare listing displayed along with their ID and some will have a price list for travel to areas - but you can ask any driver what the fare will be or can agree a fare before you hop in and go.0
