Damp on chimney breast

I live in a semi detached 1930s house.
The previous owners removed a downstairs chimney breast, but left the upstairs on in place. (Yes I know that I need to find out if it was properly supported!)

On the wall downstairs where the chimney breast used to be, there are damp patches in various places, at the worse at the bottom, but also some near the top of the wall. This is an internal party wall.

There is no sign of any damp on the upstairs chimney breast.

A few years ago, the chimney pots were removed and replaced with cowls and the chimney was repointed, but the damp continues.

Might want to check the condition of the chimney breasts and flashing at roof level. Neighbour's side, most importantly.

You can get leaks that only show as damp on the ground floor where the water falls to. It can evaporate upstairs much more easily.

Or have downstairs blocked their chimney breast and not ventilated it? It could be trapped moisture coming through your side.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
  • Thank you I appreciate your reply.

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to involve the neighbours because I have a feeling they they will not be cooperative!
