Commuter parking Leeds city centre help!
Options
Hi all, my husband has just got a job in Leeds city centre. We live in Hull. Any tips on where he can park during the day that isn't extortionate! His new job is near the Calls. We're looking into possibility of getting the train too (but then have local parking on top!)
Thank you
Thank you

I would recommed the old Tetley brewery car park not the cheapest in town but not the worse either. You can prebook blocks online which saves a bit. Main benefit is how easy it is to get to and from the M621. It will also be pretty handy for the calls. When I did the commute I used to get into Leeds around 7am and traffic was ok at that time.
I tried the train from Howden a few times and it was also ok, a fair few people I worked with caught the train from Hull every day.
Personally I found it easier to drive in but I could tailor my start and finish times to avoid the worse traffic. Another factor to my decision was that my wife was going through a slightly complicated pregnancy at the time and I needed to be able to drop everything and get home ASAP.0 -
Thank you will have a look at those. yes that was one of the reasons he'd prefer to drive as we have a 3yo and a baby so he can get straight on his way home rather than waiting for trains!0

OP, there is a new park and ride in the east of the city- called Temple Green P&R. It is just off the M1 junction 45. Driving from Hull, you'd get easy access - A64 onto A1 south, then M1 south a couple of junctions. The tickets are £3 return daily, or £2.70 if you buy 5 or more on a smart card - there's some other deals as well. Buses run very regularly (every 10 mins). In the city, the bus stops at Meadow Lane, Boar Lane, and Great Wilson street. The Meadow Lane stop is about 10 mins walk to the calls. More info on http://www.wymetro.com/parkandride/temple-green/
You'll be lucky to find parking in city centre cheaper than about £6 a day.0 -
There used to be a P&D car park near the Yorkshire Post building, in the middle of the "roundabout" and under the flyover. I used to use this when I went to hospital for appointments as it was much cheaper than other P&D car-parks, but a few years ago I am afraid so not sure how much it costs nowadays. I think it was £1 or £2 for half a day.
Not ideal for The Calls, probably a good 20 minute walk.
Have a look at parking at nearby train stations and getting the train the last leg of the journey, obviously factor in the train cost as well, Pontefract station might be convenient.
Park and Ride suggestion above seems good.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
For info, the car park near the old YP building is still there, but no longer cheap. BTW, the YP building has been demolished and only the tower remains.
OP, if you're OH is thinking about driving to a nearby station and train in a short leg, the nearest east of Leeds are Cross Gates - P&D parking, and then Garforth is a bit further out - which is also P&D parking, but there's some limited free on street parking not too far away. There is a local Tesco but they've put limited parking time in their car park, probably to stop commuters parking in their for free anyway. The trains are usually jam packed at normal commute times. Last time I got the train into the city centre (about 18 months ago), I was stood in the rear drivers cab most of the way it was so full. Don't know about the train lines in from the south though (Wakefield and Ponti)
The cost of parking and using the train would probably be more than parking in the city centre tbh, which is a bit daft.0 -
Elland Road Park and Ride.

You could even drive to and station going into Leeds, and get the train into the center.
Morley train station has free on-street parking, a short 300 yds walk.0 -
Elland Road and Temple Green are both relatively new P&R's, run by the same company, and supported by the council - both well run, regular buses, good facilities, so either are as good. Would be a longer drive into Elland Road from the East, but at least he'd get to see the home of Yorkshire football every day - it's in the car park of Leeds United's football ground. On the down side there's the new big Police station near the entrance to the car park, so if he's a dodgy type he might want to avoid it.0

Surely John Smith's stadium is current home of Yorkshire football....0 -
Get the train. Been driving into Leeds city centre from Hull since the early 1990s and it takes almost double the time it used to do. You cannot put a value on having the extra time at home and not having the stress of sitting in miles of seemingly static traffic. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
