As a driver's wife I would like to confirm that any claim that is made to AO gets charged to the delivery crew. I know first hand how annoying it is to have people assume AO have insurance and will pay out no questions asked. There is a process if a complaint is received, and if you do receive payment as compensation from a real complaint - please note that the money paid to you has been taken out of that crew's wages. I say wages, but actually they are self-employed and do not receive sick pay or holiday pay.

I would like people to consider this before they make their fraudulent allegations, as there are plenty that do. This is not a victimless act. You are not taking money from a huge corporation, but from a family's wage. (This is not specifically aimed at Aylesbury Duck - but perhaps next time you have a delivery and do not want to damage the flooring you could lay down something over it for protection!).

    ... but she's pregnant!! :D

  • If any claim would be charged to the delivery crew, you'd have thought that they would have been a lot more careful in the first place in how they moved the fridge-freezer through the hallway!

If I was a driver, and self employed, I'd be looking at insurance for any claims against me.
There's no excuse for damaging client's houses.

    Exactly.

They are paid professionals, if they are worried about damaging things maybe they should have the tools of their trade with them (floor coverings), or take more care, or not do it?
  • Thanks for the information, DriversWife. That does sound like a poor deal for the drivers. I don't appreciate a company that is prepared to take on the benefit of labour but not the responsibility for accidents that sometimes occur. They seem to have their cake and be eating it. Nevertheless, in the OP's situation (which I have no reason to doubt is genuine), they had a legitimate claim. Why should they be out of pocket just because AO's employment policy makes them feel bad about claiming? Yes they could have taken some precautions of their own but equally, I would expect delivery people to assess the situation and either have some protective materials of their own or if they were not confident of completing the job without causing damage, to say so and not attempt it. That then puts the onus on the customer to provide a suitable way of entry.

I had an issue where John Lewis damaged my flooring while installing a fridge freezer. They paid for plastic doctor to repair. Could not see it, even when I new where the repair was.
