Vehicle with no Insurance

If you look at the link I posted earlier you'll see that Pumbien v Vines pre-dates continuous insurance enforcement by about 15 years (and is in turn based on much older case law). It was a conviction for using a vehicle without insurance (which carries points), not one for failure to meet the continuous insurance requirements (which doesn't).Yes, and he's likely to get a fine as detailed in post #3 I'm not disputing that.
In practice it might be that the police would probably not show a great deal of interest in an uninsured car parked by the roadside; but in theory it is perfectly possible to get points for leaving a broken down car parked on the road without insurance, and cases like Pumbien and Eliot show that it does indeed happen, at least occasionally.0 -
Once you've SORN'd, it's five days before you can then re-tax online. It's caught a few people out who've bought cars off me previously - a trip to the PO is required if the SORN is too recent.I think it can be done online now, so same day. You'd need to insure it at that point though, so it's best to just leave it insured (your insurance on other car (I assume) will let you add another car for a while).0 -

Hi there
I be got a bit of a messy one here-I acquired a car,it had no mot cert, and no log book. But when I checked on the dvla website it said that the car was both taxed and had passed It's mot. Now for circumstances out of my hands I was unable to go to post office to send of the (vg6) form to get new log book..
So after a few weeks I bought a new car so I changed insurance onto new car..
So here's the thing. Do I have to insure the vehicle and tax it to be able to leave it on rd-or can I tax it...
I've got a feeling I will need to insure it but thought I'd ask0 -
Just in case it is not clear from the previous conflicting posts, regardless of where the vehicle is kept, if it is not on a SORN, it must be insured.0

Nope. The offence is "using" the vehicle, not driving it. Road Traffic Act 1984 section 143(1(a)).Rover_Driver wrote: »Yes, just parked on a road and un-drivable, still needs insurance. See Pumbien v Vines, as in post 10.
Its the same for having no MOT, tell the police and they are not interested.0
