I use AVG free anti-virus, I have no firewall, relying on the windows firewall is this okay?

It will stop people getting in (as does your router), just wont tell you if something wants to get out.

Do you have to switch it off ? Can't you run both at the same time ?

downloaded, disabled XP firewall, but couldn't get back onto the internet when installed, restored back to before I downloaded and it is back as normal.
maybe not compatible with my computer.

What would want to get out?

also downloaded http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ but still had problems getting online,slowed everthing down, also warning popups which I didn't uderstand.
Think I am going to leave it as it was.
