AXA car hire excess insurance doesn't cover all the excess

Hi,

I rented a car from Goldcar in Malta (won't make that mistake again) and took out car hire excess insurance with AXA. The car was dented the first first we were there, so I made a claim.

When AXA paid my claim, they reduced the amount by over £80 and said this in the payment confirmation:

Thank you for confirming all the details we needed to pay your claim. Your claim has now been approved and will be paid directly into your bank account. Due to policy conditions we do not cover loss of use of your hire car. This has been deducted from the settlement figure. Payment will reach your account in 1 to 10 working days. Kind Regards Car Trawler Team

The loss of use was one of the many items that Goldcar itemised in their bill.
I won't be using AXA again, lesson learned

Hope this helps someone else make better choices for for car hire and excess insurance
Tom

So it DID cover all the excess, but not additional charges like loss of use which is not part of the excess.

  • Goldcar has a terrible reputation, Google is your friend for future rentals.

I believe AXA paid you correctly as per policy.
