GB Energy meter reads

I had to contact them today because despite me giving our meter reading the day after they requested it by email, the usage is showing as increasing each quarter. All reading on the account are shown as estimated. Direct debit shot up from £73 to £104 per month before the price increase! I was told that I had to give the meter reading on the 4th of the month or else it would be put down as an estimate.

I did not know this, was never told. I gave a meter reading to them today and was told I HAD to phone again on the 4th August with reading or it would again be put as an estimated read.

I have never come across this before. Is it the same with other companies because we are definitely going to switch.

You are, of course, at liberty to choose whichever supplier you want no matter how much they charge, but it seems a common issue amongst all suppliers that monthly DD amounts being changed or otherwsie being inaccurate are an issue.

MSE has an informative article on this:

    Good luck!

I've not had any issues with meter reads with gb - not been asked for reads but I regularly give them online and they appear as reads and not estimated.

Over the last 12 months there have been 4 minor adjustments to the DD and I am currently £20 in credit
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
