Thanks everyone.....so basically to return an unwanted and unused item with box no problem...but without the box £400.00. Must remember to keep packaging in future.

Not necessarily, but it would involve some research.

The company need to re-package it again to get the full value.

This would involve getting the item back, sending it off to the manufacturer to be repackaged, then getting it back. Would this amount to £400? I doubt it... I think they are saying that they would only be able to achieve £1100 for an unboxed item.

Could you ask them if anyone else has bought one, and would it be possible for you to have their packaging?

Could you ask them where you could buy the correct packaging to send it back in?

Could you get someone to phone up and ask if they have any discounted models going, and see how much it would genuinely sell for without a box?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Unfortunately so. We recently bought a bath which came in an enormous box. We kept it for several weeks until the bath was installed and we were definitely happy, just in case.

But even if you had kept the packaging, you'd still be out of pocket with regards to the shipping costs each way. But as you say, it's a lesson learnt.

I would still consider selling it on eBay as you may get closer to the price you paid for it.

They have a bike on their site at the moment which is a "returned mail order item" and apparently has £900 off the usual price, so £400 doesn't sound so bad.

In which case, unless the op can find some new packaging, then the £400 costs is reasonable.

If I were buying something worth £1500, I guess I would want a reasonable amount off if it didn't come in its original box and had already been assembled...

You appear not to be reading what people have posted.

Here it is again, in a slightly different format...

From Regulation 34 of The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013:

Worth bearing in mind that only applies if they have complied with providing the necessary information.
    (11) Paragraph (9) does not apply if the trader has failed to provide the consumer with the information on the right to cancel required by paragraph (l) of Schedule 2, in accordance with Part 2.
    (l)where a right to cancel exists, the conditions, time limit and procedures for exercising that right in accordance with regulations 27 to 38;

Part 2 relates to giving certain information to the consumer in a durable medium (websites are not durable).
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

I did wonder but didn't care to spend the time looking into it so thoroughly, which is why I said it "apparently" has £900 off.
