The ECOES database who owns the data?

Is the ECOES database freely available public information? If not who owns the data? The data is used on many energy company websites during the quotations process. When you enter your postcode and it asks for your address, it comes up with a list of addresses from the ECOES database for you to choose from. Would it be illegal to scrap this data?

what would be the legal issues with scraping the address data from the enter your postcode forms on energy websites that have no terms and conditions against it?

The question may be - why would you be scrapping the data?

To merge in with other freely available data sources such as the uk postcode database and create a database of valid uk addresses within postcodes to sell.

The UK Postcode database is most definitely NOT freely available and the Royal Mail will come down on anyone who tries to sell their product or incorporate it into another product. It is 100% copyrighted by the Royal Mail and is their intellectual property.

Actually there is a freely availble uk postcode database with longitude and latitudes and everything. https://www.freemaptools.com/download-uk-postcode-lat-lng.htm. Lots of sites give the info for free but what they lack is actually addresses which ecoes has.

Whilst ECOES displays the data, the data comes from the DNOs who master the address. I would also point out that these are the address of the meter which may not be a property it could be the address of a pole in a field.

what do you mean DNOs who master the address? I know its the address of the meter. I am not interested in the meter serial numbers or anything like that just the addresses.

Each electiricty DNO has a database of metering point addresses which they master and they provide a copy to ECOES.
