Husbands Wages

Hello,
Could somebody please clear something up for us?
My husband is in a full time job, he gets paid the last working day of the month (today)
But! His wages are never paid in until late afternoon (not in yet)
Does anyone know the reason this may be at all? I'm just slightly miffed because my thoughts are that wages 'normally' go into bank accounts overnight? And that if we had a crucial direct debit going out as it's after 2pm we'd be charged a non payment fee (I think that's correct terminology)!

Is this a small co he works for ? If so they are probably sending the money by FP on the day. You should not really have bills going out on pay day, too much risk there. If his contract states he is paid on the last working day of the month they have until close of business to do it.0

Unless in the contract (unusual i think?!) there is no time limit. If they give you a date (last working day of the month) assume it will be in by 23:59. Direct debits etc schedule for the first day of the month.
If its going in midday i would assume its only being entered on their banking on that day, basically doing the pay as its paid. I believe most scheduled payments happen early hours.0 -
Thank you, that's cleared that up then. I'd say it was a medium sized business
I was just using the Direct Debit situation as an example.0 -
Can you not move the direct debit to a different day e.g. the 3rd?0

We don't have a direct debit going out today. I was just using that situation as an example0

I get paid on the last working day of the month and its always there in the morning when I wake up.
I have all my direct debits set up for the 1st, so I'm rich for a day or so before it disappears :rotfl:0 -
Chelseablue - haha! We know that feeling
My husbands wages went in at 4:15pm so all good!
Now as Chelseablue says we'll be skint tomorrow morning! At least it looks fairly healthy for the evening.
Thanks for all your help today0 -
Be grateful you don't get given a check at 5pm on the last day of the month, which happens to be a Friday with a holiday Monday0

If it's by BACS credit, it will be between midnight until 9am.
If they use Faster Payment, it's literally anytime that day/night.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
At the risk of stating the obvious, if your husband's pay is as time-critical as that, you really need to made building up an emergency fund a top priority.
I can invoice someone for work done in, say, January - and not receive the money until the beginning of April, as big companies often put a 60 day payment schedule into their contracts. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0
