Whoe is responsible for Electric meter

Hi
I have just switched to So Energy but noticed in their terms and conditions

In some cases, we may also impose any applicable additional charges for other reasonable costs which will be added to your bill at the end of each month. These additional costs include:
costs related to removing, inspecting, re-installing, testing, installing, moving or repairing a meter;

I son't see simillar clauses with other companies, are SO eneregy being more open about responsibilities or is ot normally the energy company that si sresponsible for meter repairs. If I damage or neglect the meter I can see why I would be responsibel but beyond that I would see this as their responsibility?

    I would think that the ones I have highlighted are likely to be chargeable with most suppliers, the other 2 should not be your responsibility.
    The testing is only chargeable if no fault is found.

    It will be in the other suppliers small print somewhere, maybe termed differently. The meters are "owned " by the local DNO s in your area, although the latest smart meters are now owned by the suppliers who fitted them...People damage meters, sometimes intentionally, especially prepayment meters, they also will sometimes wreck them completely when they start bypassing and abstracting and there is a big cost to the occupier of over £200 per meter when this happens.The costs of removing a meter could be for replacing a damaged meter and reinstalling a new one..Moving a meter is also usually down to the occupier and can cost hundreds.The suppliers are just covering themselves for these possibilities.

    Not strictly true, House Martin.

    The owner of the meter can be a DNO or Gas transporter, but more commonly these days, the meters are owned by the manufacturer.

    The supplier(not the owner) is responsible for these meters unless otherwise stated.

    Sorry this is technically wrong, the meter is owned by the Meter Asset Provider (MAP), this could be the DNO/GT, MOP, Customer, finance company etc.
