Booking fees etc will vary from retailer to retailer. Generally, regular things you buy online don't incur any extra charges whether you pay by debit card, credit card or paypal etc.
It's usually only big things like holidays or flights that incur charges for using a credit card. As long as you pay the full balance off each month (so that you don't pay interest) then a credit card should be fine to use.
A credit card will generally offer you more protection aswell, not only against problems with the retailer but also some credit cards will give you purchase protection free of charge (this covers against things like items being damaged in transit).
If you have a decent credit history then why not think about applying for one of the cash back credit cards? (Egg Money / Capital One - might be others I'm not aware of) ... that way you can get cash back on things you'd be buying anyway (always pay off the balance in full each month though and don't spend more than you can afford to pay off in full).0
