Roby in Liverpool

Hi,
I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right place, so Mods please move it if needed.
Basically I am looking to move house, I have seen a great house in Roby, Liverpool, which ticks all the boxes and the builders are also offering a decent part-exchange figure for my current house.
I am not from Liverpool, so don't know much about the area other than the few times I've been to the site. I've looked online etc. Does anyone here know Roby? What's it like?
Any opinions/info greatly received.
Thanks

It appears to be cheap compared to other areas that I know in the north west. Also it isn't in Liverpool it is Knowsely which always used to be somewhere to avoid. Don't know if it has become desirable.0

Roby is very nice mostly private housing but surrounded by several large social housing areas - some of them very poor.
Roby is only 7 miles to Liverpool City centre with good train and bus services. It is also close to the M62 and M57 so good road links too.
Several good local primary schools but secondary school choices not so good.
Speke Airport only about 5 miles away and Manchester airport about 35 minutes away by car on M62/M6/M56.
Nearest shopping centre is Huyton town centre (still known as Huyton Village by locals) not marvellous (Knowsley is a deprived area after all) but has an Asda superstore and a large Tesco 4 miles up the road in Prescot.
I've lived here all my life so can't be all bad!0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'm looking at the Barratts Orchards development. When I've driven there I've noticed quite a divide between the social housing and private housing areas, that sounds very snobby and I really don't mean it to be! I'm just curious about the area in general, crime rates/antisocial behaviour etc. The travel links looks great, motorway close, good rail links to Liverpool etc.0

That particular estate is pretty well tucked away and it looks quite nice. I can't really comment on the crime rates etc as its a pretty new development and not a 'through route' so I don't know much about it really.
The main access route would be via Rupert road which is a busy road (with speed bumps) which gets congested at certain times of the day.
It also is the division between Huyton with Roby (nice) and the social housing estates of Page Moss (rough) and a bit further over is Bakers Green (very rough).
The better areas are the other side of the railway tracks, Roby Road, Bowring Park, Tarbock Road.
Of course all this is just my opinion so I would spend a bit of time driving around the area and doing some research before you commit.0 -
Thanks for your reply Mossfarr.
I drove around the area again this afternoon, generally it seems pretty quiet around the developmental area.
My only concern is the noise from the railway as it's very close. Handy in some ways, such as going into town etc, but the noise may be an issue.
Thanks again0 -
I'd agree with Mossfarr in general. I'm from Liverpool and have lived in a few different areas in my time here. A lot of these new estates look nice all over the city and seem like they're detached enough from the "bad" areas even if they're in them. But ultimately you've got to drive through them, shop and socialise there plus your kids if you have any have to go to school there.
However you can get some real bargains because of the above and the location from a transport and motorway links perspective is excellent.
So see how it goes - have a look round at different times of day, weekends, after school and so on and trust your gut instinct.0 -
Decent area in general but it is in Knowsley which has generally poor schools. I'm not sure whether it is possible to use the Liverpool schools which are generally much better with a couple of really good ones as well.0
