This has to be the most disheartening way people are abusing the system. This lady (single mum?) managed to get a council house because she was fortunate that the system helped her as she couldn't afford private rental.
Find a partner, and then instead of wanting to pass on this opportunity to someone else in need, instead use it to get as much money from those who don't get the same opportunity.
With all the outcry of LL only caring about their own benefit, surely this has to go right on top of the list. And then people wonder why they have no respect for a system that is only opened to be abused by those who it is supposed to help at the cost of those in needs. Totally disgraceful.0 -

Don't worry. I can't see anyone being interested in renting an ex council house where with the discount they only cost £56k. The kind of tenant will be someone who has been evicted from a council or housing association property for either rent arrears or anti social behaviour. Any decent tenant will want a much better area. Ex council houses only make good rental properties in expensive areas. £56k after the discount has never been an expensive house. In fact the council might be quite pleased to get rid of it so that they can invest the money in something better.0 -

It would depend on what part of the country it is in. In the Welsh valleys the £56k with discount would probably get a social housing house in one of the nicer areas. There are some big, rough, and undesirable social housing estates around but there are also plenty of smaller, nicer ones and even individual houses in traditional terraces that have previously been bought by HAs. My own house (not social housing and no discounts) was bought for not much more less than a year ago, in London it would be worth a couple of million, even heading towards the cities of Cardiff or Swansea my house would be over £200k. What is cheap in one area is expensive or average in others.0 -
Your partner ought to be ashamed of herself for depriving those genuinely in need of a secure tenancy, and you ought to keep your wits about you that she doesn't try and scam you in the long run as she's obviously not averse to it... shameful scenario0
