Good morning everyone, thanks to Hester for starting the thread and hugs to anyone that needs one.
Cloudy and damp here today and rain forecast so I'll do a quick bin dash and water the greenhouse before the weather closes in.
Just had a lovely Facetime with my eldest who is currently in Athen's visiting his GF's parents, they were sitting in their "garden" room shaded from the sun enjoying fruit & veg her Dad had grown. They have built outdoor kitchen & living areas and a couple of bedrooms that open up to outdoors and basically live there during the hotter months. It looks idyllic . Her folks also have a house on one of the near by islands so they are heading there for a few days later in the week. My son is a typical "fair" Scot so it will be suncream Factor "dufflecoat" lol for him.
Mean while in less than sunny Scotland I need to get my short ribs in the slow cooker, I browned them last night so just a quick assembly needed today. I'll cook them today but have them tomorrow so I can let the fat solidify overnight and take it off. I hate greasy casseroles. I've no idea what to have tonight though so need to have a noodle through the freezer and see what I fancy .
I hope everyone has a good day x0 -
Morning all,DD1's oldest is taking his test for the second time in August, she has gone halves on a car for him, he is adamant that he doesn't want a black box insurance, so she told him that she won't help him pay for it.
Hester Your daughter is very wise. Youngest has been moaning about his black box ever since he started driving. He couldnt wait to ditch it this year but since his accident has come so close to his renewal he's had to renew it with his black box again. He gets regular updates as to how he drives. The accident he had was when he hit another car at 5mph. At least his claimants cant say he was speeding. Every trip Youngest makes in his car is logged and his insurance has verified he was only doing 5mph when he hit them.
You might ask how he came to have such a damaged hand hitting a car at 5mph.... well the habit he's developed, one hand on the steering wheel, the other hand on the window didnt help. Neither did it help when he came home and banged his already damaged hand on his metal desk in temper. Oh he's only got himself to blame (and he knows it).I am getting a bit fed up of planning meals round Mr TA's one handed eating, though I have resorted to just cutting all his food up on occasion.
Good job you mentioned that TA, looks like i'll have to cut Youngests meat up for him.:rotfl:
Food shopping today.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Nice sunny morning, we are off on a semi jolly today. Its DD2's annual family tea party, we are calling at a local garden open day on the way. Need to padlock my purse.
We will have the soup I made yesterday for lunch, OH will have his siesta and then we will be off.
I finished the bag yesterday, there is a photo on my blog, I am not keen to repeat making an over the body bag again, putting the lining in was a problem, however its done. Fingers crossed the lady likes it.
No supper tonight.0 -
Morning
Had a rubbish nights sleep ( or non sleep ) and was peeling the potatoes at 4am ready for lunch . Went back to bed at 5am so have had a couple of hours and feel really tired now. Meanwhile DH is full of the joys, singing and whistling.
Holly I think you had my hours of sleep last night :rotfl:. If it does you good we can share. ( sleep-sharing like job sharing, a new concept I think :j )
The washing almost dried yesterday so I have put it back out this morning as we are supposedly having thunder, lightening and heavy rain later.
Elderly neighbour's son called last evening to ask about his mum. He has had the same story about the flower seller in her kitchen, so he will contact her GP about her "hallucinations" in case it's due to medication or perhaps a urine infection. Glad he's noticed that things are not right and thanked us for all we do/ have to put up with.
Not doing much today but keeping one eye on the washing in case the rain arrives sooner. Dad is coming to lunch and we're having roast chicken etc. Hope he's in a better mood than last time !
Enjoy your Sunday everyone, hope you have a good one.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Morning all.
Heavy rain earlier but the sunis trying to come out now. A bit chilly though which is quite welcome.
Nothing much planned for today. I have some ironing to do and bedding to put away. Lunch will be jacket potato with bean chilli from last night. For dinner we will have pork chops with crème fraiche and mustsrd sauce, with new potatoes and allotment veg. Looking forward to my first home grown cabbage.
Glad you enjoyed your holiday Nmlc.
Gers your future gardening plans sound exciting.
HH the flask idea sounds as it it might help.
Have a good day all and hugs and spoons to all who would like them.

It was absolutely larraping down last night when I sent Mia out for her final wee before bed; brilliant sunshine today though, so a WM of Mr LW's clothes has been washed and line-dried, and I've braved the fearsome place that is our front garden to try to eliminate some of the bindweed. Had to stop after a while; my hands were hurting so much I could no longer push the trowel into the soil.
Mia has gone home; I already miss that lovely, huge, brindled face. Next guest couldn't be more different, a JR/Chihuahua cross - he'll be arriving on Friday. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
We've just had the mother and father of all hailstorms, huge things bouncing off the ground! It's been pretty fine until then.
I did my washing load earlier and got it outside and dried before the storm came. Now it's just raining very hard! The garden blokes are still out there though they took shelter in the big barn when the hail arrived. I've posted pics on the green fingered board if anyone wants to see what's happening.
Some friends 'kindly' sent me photos of them in Budapest for the World Swimming Championships - blue skies and sunny days. They get taken to the venue by boat taxi each day. Huh... not impressed!
I'd say my day was quiet but the background noise of two strimmers meant it wasn't really.0 -

Holly do you think we should patent " sleep- sharing ". Wouldn't like someone to steal the idea and make loads of money at our expense :rotfl::rotfl:.
Hope you sleep well tonight, I think I shall try to go up the wooden hill a bit earlier than 5am !.
Sleep tight all, "see " you tomorrow.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Evening chums hope you all have had a good day, the grated sweet chilli Halloumi cheese in scrambled egg was gorgeous, and I have quite a bit left in the fridge so some will go on tomorrows lunchtime salad, and the rest I am going to make some cheese and onion pasties with it Help to use up some red onion as well.
Done my finances as its the last day of the month and have another £14.60 to go into my holiday fund from left over cash in my food budget purse:):) happy days
Cheers chums
