O/S Daily Thread Sunday 30th July

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

Thanks for starting us off Hester.

Hugs and positive vibes for those of you who are going through difficult times.

I slept much better last night than I have been, and feel a lot better for it. I think I managed 6 hours which is very good for me at the moment.

My brother is picking me up later to spend the day with him and his family. I’m really looking forward to this. It will be nice not to have to cook today either.

All of the housework is up to date, so I don’t have anything that I need to do before I go out, so I can have a nice relaxing couple of hours. I will get some breakfast and another mug of tea in a minute and then start to get ready to go out.

I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks and thanks HESTER for kicking off.

Not too bad a day forecast for us so I am hoping to finally find time to tackle the weeds that are overtaking the garden. Plus some long overdue deadheading.

Need to do a freezer rummage before lunch is decided on. I am getting a bit fed up of planning meals round Mr TA's one handed eating, though I have resorted to just cutting all his food up on occasion.

Not much else planned and, after a few busy days, I think I have earned a feet up afternoon to finish my book. It's been a strange book to follow but I have persevered and, on the last lap, I am finally enjoying it!

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care all xx

Judi, I'm glad to hear youngest has been discharged. DD1's oldest is taking his test for the second time in August, she has gone halves on a car for him, he is adamant that he doesn't want a black box insurance, so she told him that she won't help him pay for it.

Dumpling I hope you had fun with the DGC. Hugs to Nelski and anyone else in need.

Sunshine & heavy showers are forecast for today, as opposed to non-stop rain we had all afternoon and evening yesterday.

I need to shop today, we need milk, something for CHS's lunches next week, and food for today.

The tins cupboard is still fairly full so we will eat out of there twice next week, I will shop again on Tuesday or Wednesday, I'm still getting to grips with not having a freezer and only having a very small and inefficient fridge.

I've nearly finished my latest baby blanket, I'll post a pic on my blog when it's finished, the baby isn't due until Christmas!. I've been given a cross stitch kit of a narrowboat, I need to dig out my magnifier to see if I can do it, if not I will ask a friend to complete it for me, the finished size is just under 4 inches.

Right, the kettle is calling (it takes 20 minutes to boil on the hob).
    Have a good day everyon.
    Hugs Hester

Morning everyone, thanks for the start Hester.

Boy did it rain in the night, woke me up several times but pleased to say that this morning is bright, sunny and all sparkling after the downpour.
Managed a fair bit in the garden yesterday and it's looking much tidier, I have lots of tomatoes but none have coloured up yet so gave them their weekly feed and a good talking to :)
Not masses planned for today, usual listening to the Archers and I picked up some chicken yesterday so will have that for today with SP mash & veggies.

Enjoy your afternoon of reading TA you certainly deserve the rest.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday x

Hope you have a good rest TA, you deserve it.
    Enjoy your day out Holly.

It's a bit showery this morning, may risk the washing on the line as I'm about all day. DD and bf coming for dinner after their flight (if it goes ahead).

Had a lovely day in Glasgow yesterday, the food festival was really good, discovered that my next door neighbour was organising one part of it. Met him at the prosecco bar and he bought us all a drink, his son was at the beer bar so we got a free drink there too!

Need to go shopping today, DD and bf are trying to follow a vegan diet - who knew so many things contain eggs?!

Have a happy Sunday all. Take care. XX

Hester, do you have a thermos flask? You could boil water when you have time and keep it until needed.

It's been raining all night, on the plus side I don't have to water the garden.
Plenty of ripe tomatoes to pick, really need to freeze some but no room in freezer.
Will pick runner beans and make a plum crumble if I can be brave and climb the ladder to pick them (I'm terrified of heights)

Hope you all have a good day

Morning all and what a beautiful morning, clear blue skies and lively fresh air after last night's downpours. That pesky weatherman says that it will rain later, it must take a very unkind person to be a weatherman. Just as well that it is not a real person.

I don't have anything special to do today, just change the bedlinen because I forgot on Friday, iron some trousies for work and then the day is mine until it is time to cook dinner. Gammon joint, new potatoes, parsley sauce and some veg. Possibly some yorkshires which don't necessarily 'go' but we like them and it has been several months since we had traditional Sunday dinner. We don't tend to when it is warm.
Since I have little of interest to tell you, I shall go and have yet another cup of tea. I hope that everyone has a happy day and that people who need a rest, TA I am looking at you, get one.

    Morning everyone.

It's been raining for most of the night and thunderstorms are forecast for today. I've got a new set of towels waiting to get washed and dried but it probably won't be today.

Yesterday, on my way home, i decided to drop into the Kelvingrove Art Museum for a mooch and to listen to the organ recital- place was heaving and car park rammed. Turns out there was a graphic novel exhibition which was attracting people from far and wide. I didn't stay.

There's two chaps coming early afternoon to start strimming what I'm calling the front garden. It's part of the field directly across the track from me which once was a lovely garden but now is very overgrown and neglected. I'd love to get it looking good again so getting it cleared is the first job.

Apart from that there's not much else planned for today. Two second hand books appeared from Azon in the post :o which need some attention!

    Happy Sunday to all.

Good Morning chums a bit damp here in north kent but the sun is struggling to come out at the moment and I hope it dries up later. All my washing and ironing are up to date :0 and the baking was done yesterday afternoon instead of today so this morning I am going to give the bathroom a good scouring, and probably the sitting room as well. All my munus are sorted and planned for the next week or so as I am slowly working my way through fresh stuff as much as possible.

I have my oldest friend coming to lunch tomorrow and have done the gammon from the freezer in the SC and it looks and tastes really nice I also made a quiche and some scones and a cake for the tin ,just in case we need a nibble or two :)
NSD for me this week at all and I only have to sweep some cash into my holiday account tomorrow from the food budget purse :)Another month almost over and time is whizzing by now .

Hope you all have a pleasant and peaceful sunday

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

    Morning everyone

Hester - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now bright and sunny, but very wet underfoot and laying water everywhere after the heavy rain during the night - it seems quite a lot of the country had this. I'll only need to water the tomatoes in the green house today.

We got back from holiday yesterday lunch time, it was a lovely break, accommodation was great and we did have mixed weather but it sounds like it wasn't that much different to other parts of the country. Was good to unwind and get some r&r.

Dinner last night was HM egg savoury rice and pasta in a carbonara sauce - all eaten and enjoyed. We did have chips from the chip shop at luncthime - at DH's request.

I did remember to get a chicken out of the freezer to defrost - so we'll be having that with pots, veg and gravy for lunch today. I'll be organising pack ups etc whilst lunch is cooking, as DH and DS1 go back to work tomorrow, I have an early dentist appointment too. I'll then need to do some food shopping.

I have a load of washing done in the WM, I'll put that out shortly. I'll keep going with that if I have to use the TD because of the weather so be it, I obviously have all the holiday washing to do, so it needs to be done.

I have weighed myself since we got back and I've put on 3 lb, which I'm not to worried about, I know it wasn't really the food that I've eaten but we had quite a lot of wine, but I have that instead of dessert/cake/ice cream etc - I didn't eat any of those whilst away. Although cheese is my other weakness and we did visit a cheese factory and bought some home but most of that is still unopened. I'm back on the healthier eating today, yesterday I ate some food that I don't normally eat (chips), and I just felt so stuffed and my system overloaded, remember now why I choose to eat the food that I do, feel much better this morning and won't be going down that route again. I want to get rid of weight I've put on this next week before I go back to work next Monday.

    Keep safe and well x
