General Help:CCJs and moving on

Options
Really hope someone can advise.
We are currently in private rental (through someone we know not through an agency)
and would desperately like to relocate but feel we are probably stuck because of our financial situation.
I've got a good credit rating but am a stay at home mom.
My husband has a good permanent job for the NHS (been in the same role for 10 years but doesn't have a good credit rating.
He got out a loan when he was 18 (now 33) and I think because he wasn't educated at the time the interest got out of control on a really small amount of money (I think £1,000) anyway the position he is in now is that the bank sold on his debt of £3,500 (all interest he'd payed back 3 times the amount borrowed already) and he was advised to pay £1 a week and there was nothing they could do about it.
Now somehow after all these years last year they decided to take 2 ccjs out against him even though he's been paying the pound a month for years)
Can this happen all of a sudden? He seems to think he had no warning letters?
What are our options for moving on now?
I'm really worried in case something happens to this deal we have with this landlord and we have to move on, plus we actually want to move on.
From what I can gather we aren't going to be able to private rent as my husband won't pass the credit checks?
Also, I was looking into part buy part rent deals but I guess we couldn't do that either?
I went to the bank and all they told me was don't link your credit scores which we haven't so I can get 0percent interest deals if I need too.
Sigh.
Would really appreciate your input/advice

Something doesn't sound right. Two CCJ's for the same loan? He has been paying who £1 per week. The bank or who they had sold the debt on to?
  • He's been paying £1 a month to whoever the debt has been sold onto...but that keeps changing as they keep selling the debt on and he has to keep changing who he is paying
One ccj is for 300 pound the other is for 3,000 ish

You would have to pay the court to make an application to set the judgments aside.

Can this happen all of a sudden? He seems to think he had no warning letters? Your husband should’ve received county court claim forms before the CCJ was obtained. This would’ve given him the chance to admit the debt and make an offer, or defend the debt if he believes the claim was incorrect. Prior to claim forms he would have received letters that state, county court action is an option for enforcement. Unfortunately, county court action is an option on any debt that has defaulted, even if there is an informal arrangement in place.

From what I can gather we aren't going to be able to private rent as my husband won't pass the credit checks? You should speak to some estate agents about the situation and just ask them in general, what they may be able to do. Would they expect a bigger deposit or a guarantor? You could ask if the CCJ’s would be as much of a problem if they were satisfied.
Also, I was looking into part buy part rent deals but I guess we couldn't do that either? As this will involve a mortgage application, it will, very likely, be harder to obtain that a private rental approval.
I went to the bank and all they told me was don't link your credit scores which we haven't so I can get 0percent interest deals if I need too. Be careful about taking on any more credit yourself or even using a 0% card in your name to pay your husband’s debts. This would mean the debt is then yours and he is no longer liable.
    Sigh.

Could you please clarify, for future posters, how much your husband owes in total to his debts and perhaps a SOA? There may be more options he can consider if we know a bit more about the situation.
