Help understanding ESA letter?

Hello all, I'm struggling to understand my ESA decision and was hoping someone could dumb it down for me in plain English (something these forms fail to do)

i am currently receiving ESA my letter states as follows:

Your living expenses: £73:10
Limited capability to work addition
Extra Money because you are in the Support group: £36.55
Which gives a total Income-related amount: 109.65

Income and Benefits

No income will be taken off your Employment and Support AllowanceYour income related amount is £109.65 less £0.00 so you would have been entitled toHow ever because you are entitled to contribution based employment and support allowance we will pay you: £109.65.

Now this is where I'm completely lost..if i am in the support group and contribution based ESA why am i receiving an income related amount? also will this affect me as my partner works more than 30 hours a week, or am i confusing myself? any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you!!

Seems to me like the way they've worded it. Looking at the amount in which you recieve you don't have the premium in that which is paid with Income Related. The amount you get is CB ESA. The premium on that if it was Income Related would be £15.90 single person and £22.85 for couples. Your partner working won't affect your CB ESA,

The letter seems to suggest your are not in receipt of Contribution based ESA, what makes you think otherwise? Have you had a different letter?

You are receiving Contribution based ESA and this means that your partners earnings and any savings the two of you have are ignored and no deductions are made.

It is appalling that the DWP cannot write comprehensible letters. It is important that claimants know the type of award they are getting as contribution based award does not give entitlement to free prescriptions and dental care (for example) whereas income based award would.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

I agree with the above suggestion as to interpretation. CB ESA being awarded and presumably partner working prevents getting income related? It is shocking... that after years of this benefit we still cannot get letters written that are factually correct in understandable English when it comes to the award.. .and that's if you're lucky enough to get such a letter. Most damning they're sending these ambiguous and confusing letters to the very section of adults that will comprise highly elevated proportions of people who would struggle to deal with such letters in the first place.

    OP,

    Do not fret.

You have a letter from DWP, it is incorrectly worded but the underlying meaning is clear.

    The facts are:
*You are in the Support Group
*You are entitled to ESA Contributory and will recieve £109.65 per week for as long as you remain in the support group.
*You are not entitled to ESA Income Related

If you need a letter to show anyone as proof of benefit you can phone them and they will send you a letter which is plain English saying ESA Conts £109.65 per week.

If you do not need the letter as proof to show anyone else, then furgetaboudit.
