I recently moved house and have just had the PAYG meter replaced with a standard credit meter. I am now trying to switch suppliers, but the is asking for a MPRN number. Apparently this is shown on a bill, but of course I haven't had one yet. Is there any way of finding it, or will I just have to wait until the first bill comes before I switch?

Was it not on the welcome letter when you registered with the current supplier?

The welcome pack has details of the tariff, account number and price per kwh, but it doesn't mention the meter numbers. Do you know if the meter point reference number changes if you replace the meter? The new one has a different serial number to the old one, but it doesn't mention the MPRN at all.

The MPRN is the unique identifier for your gas supply point and also the identity of the current registered gas supplier at your premises.

You can call the National Grid M Number enquiry line on 0870 608 1524* and ask them for your MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number).

*This call will cost 7 per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.
