Dummy question about washing machine detergent

I recently purchased a big tub of Vanish 'Oxi action' powder in a sale and would like to give it a go as I often find stains on some of my clothing even after a wash and it usually takes a few washes before they disappear.

Anyway usually I use the liquid detergent where you fill the cap up so far then chuck it on top of your washing in the actual drum, so can I mix the two? i.e. still have my liquid detergent in the drum but also stick some of this Vanish stuff in the detergent tray?

There is no reason why you can't do this.

Personally I've never found Vanish works well on stains so now always use Ace, originally known as a fabric bleach, but now labelled as stain remover. It is perfectly safe on most fabrics & you can even use it on pure wool. Some stains might need more than one treatment but the longer you leave the Ace to work on the stain before washing, the more successful you are at getting rid of stubborn stains such as coffee or tomato sauce.

Yes, you can mix and match Vanish with detergent however you like. You can put the Vanish straight into the drum too if you prefer.
