In 2013, I was working for local government in South London who provided me with a car park permit for a car park called Powis Street. With my permit clearly displayed, I parked my car in the Powys Street car park. After three days, I received three parking fines in the post saying I had not paid and displayed. I immediately stopped parking in the car park and then discovered that there are two car parks called Powis Street immediately next to one another. They are both pay and display however my permit was only valid in one of them.
The fines were issued by Excel parking who I contacted and sent a copy of my permit to and my circumstances. They rejected my appeal and then doubled the fine which I refused to pay. The first debt collectors then contacted me and harassed me consistently to which I then agreed to pay the original £70 fine for each ticket totalling £210.
I have now received three letters from BW legal which I have ignored at this stage. The last two letters state that I need to pay two lots of £154 by 10th august or they may proceed with court action.
I think this is outrageous seeing as Excel decided to name their car park identical to the car park next to them! Although the car park labels pay and display, as I had a permit issued by Greenwich council, I was under the impression it was valid. Clearly they did not agree with this, I chose to pay the original fine for each three tickets but felt it was wholly unfair to pay the additional costs of the parking fine as they then doubled the charge
The total amount they are demanding is now £308 which I do not have to pay! However, I'm worried that by ignoring these letters they will progress to court which would affect my job
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

They are choosing you to chase, because you have shown yourself to be a victim who pays. You should NEVER have paid £70 a pop to pen-pushers!

Should have ignored them. You are now marked out as a mug.
County court cannot affect your job. I think you think county court = CCJ, automatically. Nope.
Have a look at other BW Legal claims if you get one, we have never seen a well-defended BW Legal case lost on here (and I can only recall one lost, a Gladstones case, at all, against ANY private parking firm by posters on here in the past year).
This is what the NEWBIES thread covers already. Post #2 is about court and pre-court letters.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
