Okay thanks, I'll take a picture of the whole house tomorrow and post it here, it really does not match the house.0

You haven't answered the question about the agreed design before starting?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Its because they hadn't agreed a design before starting.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
We agreed on having the wall bricked not rendered, he only mentioned renedering once the job was started. And for the window he told us it would look the same as the others.0

The exterior wouldn't bother me (once the render is finished)
The interior, I had to do something similar once (my own house) and when curtains were hung each side of the window, it looked fine.0 -
I personally think it is far from botched!! I see what you mean by the inside but I am having the same thing done at the moment and my builder has said the same re butting the window to the wall. With curtains up it will look normal.0

I have windows like that in two of my bedrooms, they are not really a problem, just no finials on the curtain poles. The outside looks okay to me, possibly nicer & more interesting than bricked.
Having non matching windows would drive me nuts though, having a window "made" I would expect to be a match, agree with another poster that it may be overs from another job.
The lack of a drawing allows the builder to use "artistic" licence, and in my experience, even with a drawing they'll ignore elements. Out of interest, did you not need a drawing for building control?0 -
I personally think the outside Will look better with a rendered block thank it would with matching bricks, it breaks the exterior up a bit instead of a large plain area.
I've had to plaster many many internals with Windows butted up like that. It's pretty standard practice to maximise the light coming in.0
