2 mpan numbers

I've been with scottish power for 5 years and changed from prepayment to standard meters in Jan this year. Ever since i've had nothing but problems, i had an old comfort meter it was never changed when the gas was put in, they changed this to a standard meter too. Since it changed i'm having problems getting an account set up as they say I have 2 mpan numbers. Does anyone know how I go about sorting this?

I have 2 mpan numbers as well but only one meter. As I understand it mpan numbers apply just to the electricity meter. It is generally allocated when the supply to the property was set up. My house was a show house many years ago and I have an mpan number relating to the original plot number and one to the house number and street name as well. All electricity meters should have a serial number. Make a note of the number and then see how this tallies with the number the energy company has on there records you might be able to sort it out from there.

Contact you supplier and check if both MPANs are still in use (have a meter connected). It is possible one is redundant and should have been 'disconnected'. Until it is, if they are related then you must switch both at the same time and may limit your choices.
