I don't think the OP said that Skyscanner was 'dodgy' (or even 'doggy' ;)).
    Who said Skyscanner is dodgy?

    From the OP:

Are these dodgy in any way? They seem to be quoting the self-same flights.

Travellerboy was simply using the same terminology as the OP, allowing for the spelling mistake.
  • The OP didn't say they were dodgy. He asked If they were dodgy.

Of course they'd not. It's the third parties that advertise on there, that travellerboy seems to rate, that are dodgy. Oh, and Abta don't licence anyone.

I read that was OP asking if the deals were dodgy - 'are these dodgy' (quite often, yes) , not Skyscanner.

But - as 2 other posters have pointed out - he turned the question the OP asked about Skyscanner into a statement about them.

Ok, well look, thanks to everyone for replying. I'm still not sure where exactly I stand - it's just that I was finding these Skyscanner details at a £150 discount versus the airline flight prices for a return to Chicago in the autumn.

You can see why I asked!

Do you understand what Skyscanner does?
You will not be purchasing any deals from Skyscanner.

From Skyscanner website - see particularly the bold underlined bit:
    The world's travel search engine

Skyscanner compares millions of flights to find you the cheapest deal, fast. Whether you want to go to Tenerife or Tokyo, we'll find low cost flights to get you there. We also find the cheapest hotels and car hire deals. Skyscanner is free!

When you find your flights and click to book, we link you through directly to the airline or travel agent. No hidden charges, no added fees. So you get the cheapest flights every time!
When you follow a link to a flight you might be interested in, you may find these things happen:
Often the prices will be from dodgy agents and will go up when try to book or you'll find it's a different ticket class with no luggage included for example.
Most of the agents that advertise on SS don't have access to live pricing, or availability. You're not comparing like for like when you compare prices displayed on SS to those of the airlines.

You need to be sure you are comparing like-for-like between the deal you've found via (not with) Skyscanner with an agent and what the airline is charging.

On a slight tangent has anyone successfully got the lowest fares after doing an ita matrix search as these are all quoted as being direct airline fares I understand.

Do they actually quote fare deals or classes that may actually have sold out?

It's possible to search ITA Matrix for all fares or only for fares with availability. The default should be only those with availability.

I traveled to Cancun a fortnight ago after using sky scanner to check flight prices. Virgin website was over £2000 for 4 people but netflights was £1800 for the same virgin flight. I had no issues and saved over £200.

I have also used Netflights to obtain a lower fare on Virgin Atlantic. They seem to have consolidator fares and are one of the better firms who display on Skyscanner.

Netflights are part of the Dnata/Emirates group.
