Help! I'm a self employed student

I am a full time student and I work for a company that pays monthly for the hours that I work, plus commission for reaching targets and converting customers etc. However, it does not deduct my tax from my wage as I am officially self-employed.
When it comes to me paying my tax at the end of the tax year, will my self employment status affect the £5,225 earnings that I wouldn't normally have to pay tax on because I am a student?
Deeply confused and would appreciate any nuggets of wisdom!
