House not selling

Our house in the north of Scotland has been on the market for around 5 months with very little interest, we'd really like to sell soon so are wondering if anyone who knows their stuff can give good advice please? Am I allowed to post a link to it so people can have a look and give advice? We have already dropped the price by £5,000 and could obviously drop it by more but are wondering if we should be doing a wee bit of decorating or if there's something else we're missing. The estate agent did advise against decorating as we 'wouldn't get our money back'. Should we be chasing up the estate agent and asking them to do more? Any help gratefully received! Thanks, Irene

Where in the "North of Scotland?"

We are 20 miles north of Inverness. We had our house on the market just over 2 years. We gave up. It's now rented. I concluded that I would have to drop the price of our old 5 bedroom house to less than the build cost of our replacement 3 bedroom house to get it to sell. The only way I can swallow the pill of it costing us money to downsize is if I can get several years rental income from the old house before I have to give it away at a silly price.

I can point you to houses that have been on the market 5 years. I know one that sold earlier this year having been on the market 4 years. There just seems to be no demand, or nowhere near the demand there was here 10 years ago.

From where I sit, The housing market here went into recession in 2008 and has yet to crawl out of it. we have watched other parts of the UK market boom, and feel very left out.

Just look how many houses are for sale under home report valuation and reduced price to give you a clue.

Sory to be the bringer of bad news.

Personally I would be giving it a lick of paint in a neutral colour. Just so it is more appealing to potential buyers.

Pro Dave - Dingwall! :) Aye the market seem spretty slow just now but some are selling, just not ours yet! :( We're in a tied house with my hubbys job elsewhere but it's coming to an end and we'd really like the Dingwall house to sell so we can get something more suitable for our expanding family.

Yup that's the one, I'd agree with the paint, the way the estate agent talked it wasn't worth doing a thing but it's still not sold so it's worth a try I guess

Good advice IMO, but good to hear about an honest EA as well.
