Thanks for all the responses everyone but can we please keep on topic!
I don't want to keep trying to explain my actions or go into more details about what actually happened.
I just want some advice on whether this is something the credit card company would be interested in looking into.

Sorry to be brutal but no.
You paid for a holiday, you got a holiday.

Unfortunately these have a bearing on the situation so it is quite proper to discuss them.

I'm not saying this is the case, but if the hotel were to post here saying something like "the child was out of order, the parents did nothing, so a member of staff chastised him in a way that is perfectly accceptable in Turkey" it would put a different slant on things. There's always two sides to a story after all, and posters here have only read one.

Agree with the above according to this study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4326463/ over 80% of Turkish parents use infrequent corporal punishment so perhaps the reason the hotel didn't do much about the "assault" was a cultural thing. Not saying it's right but it was certainly considered pretty normal "when I were a lad", clips round the ear, flying blackboard rubbers, hanging kids upside down out the classroom window by their ankles were all pretty much "par for the course" then, but today would be grounds for dismissal.

Sorry not quite sure what your asking? He hit him round the head knocking his hat off and marking his face, at this point my son started cowering and crying when the staff member picked up the hat and hit him several times with that as well.
It was because he was playing running around a water sprinkler which apparently he shouldn't have been. My boys very well behaved and timid and would have stopped if asked straight away.

Well behaved yet he was running around a water sprinkler ?

Why did you not tell him to stop yourself ?

Its going to be hard to get anywhere based on the previous replies.

The answer to that is NO, to get any recompense at all you would have needed to report the incident to the police, I'm sure at least one other guest would have known the number.
Basically you didn't think this through at the time, and now you are home its too late. Was your son injured? If so did you take photos? Did what he alleges actually happen? (not saying he usually lies).

Was that water sprinkler right in the middle of the flower beds, by any chance? :D

Yes it was seen by us who the staff member was unaware were watching. We let out son play in the water sprinkler, it was in the middle of grass where people frequently sat, no a flower bed or anything we thought he shouldn't be near.
We have photos of the injury and the hotel has never tried to say it didn't happen or that its acceptable. We have several witnesses to. (there were other children playing too whos parents were around, he proceeded to shout at them after hitting my son)

Had a phone call from them last night (thomson) they arn't trying to deny anything and seem very apologetic which is good. They are calling again today to discuss a resolution.

We didn't see a problem with what he was doing, had we said not to he wouldn't have and as said, if the member or staff had said to stop, or better still asked us to tell him then he would have.

The hotel completely agree it was wrong and dismissed him immediately.
