Any decent 'find-a-mechanic' sites?

We use comparison sites and bidding sites all the time now, I even use one for delivery and collection of large items from eBay, you post your job and people bid on it, you see their quote, their feedback etc. I think its a great idea

Are there any such sites for finding a local mechanic?

Ask a couple of local taxi drivers who they use.

Be wary of any websites claiming to recommend garages that are part of their scheme. Usually it will simply be a pay to sign up deal and nothing to do with quality or value.
Ask locally for recommendations.

There are loads of sites already. But as mentioned above beware....

Any dodgy mechanic can get listed on a site with glowing reviews as long as they pay the subscription.

Bidding on jobs.. Yeah i will do your £1000 clutch change for £150 all in.. But the final bill will be £1250 because there will have been complications...

You cant beat word of mouth from family and friends.

Yes there are some very good & reliable/honest garages. And yes you can find them with relative ease if you know where to look.

Can always cross reference with Google Reviews. But there are plenty of cracking garages around.... everywhere!

Ask around (farmers, taxi drivers, builders, locals), or have a drive round a few industrial estates in your area and see if you can spot somewhere that looks like it's been around for a while.
