VAT and extras added onto Wedding

I recently got married, paying £5,000 for just for the venue. Everything was paid prior to the wedding day except for the bottles of wine and tablecloths, which we verbally agreed would be £10 a bottle and £4.80 for each tablecloth use to be washed. We were happy that this was to be billed afterwards. We asked for 20 bottles of wine to be put on the tables and we used 13 tablecloths in total.
We've charged £12.50 per bottle of wine and for 22 tablecloths to be washed, and to top it off they've added 20% VAT on the total.
I've rang up to reason and they've agreed we said £10 a bottle but are not willing to budge on the tablecloths, saying their staff could've washed clean ones if the packs were open (which they were initially to find the correct size we needed). I don't think this is good enough.
1) Do I have to pay this VAT despite nothing being mentioned beforehand?
2) Do I have to pay for these extra tablecloths because their staff decided to wash clean ones?

Fortunately and rather unfortunately you don't have anything in writing so you are required to pay for what you used. In this case if they have invoiced you for 20 bottles of wine at £12.50 and you used 20 bottles then you will need to pay it, however, similarly if you only used 13 tablecloths and have proof of that then you only need to pay for 13 as they also don't have agreement that says you have to pay for the full packet.0
