Recently sold car - Wrong reg number via RingGo

Hi there MSE,

Hoping someone can tell me whether I should bend the knee on this for £65 or go ahead an challenge it at the risk of £130, as my informal appeal has already been rejected. I've already paid them £20.20 in parking fees!

I recently sold my car (Car 1) In July, and last used the RingGo app to park in April.
Drove into London taking my grandparents to a hospital appointment in July and parked in a bay around the corner from the hospital, validating parking via RingGo for 1 hour.
Nearing the end of the second hour, made my way back to the car while getting some lunch and wandering around, and renewed the parking for a 3rd hour to avoid any lapse.
Came back to find the PCN attached to the windscreen (attached in the first hour), and while browsing the app, the penny dropped that I hadn't changed my reg in the app to my new car (Car 2).
Stayed with the car as I couldn't find a way through the app or calling the number on the meter to change the reg for the hour I had just bought, but changed the reg on the last hour to avoid any more trouble.

I'm surprised the council rejected my first claim after sending them the notification of ownership change, as this is clearly a mistake that has resulted in them losing no money (I have used 1 space and paid for 1 space, albeit under the wrong reg and in somewhat unusual circumstances), and Car 1 is now kept up north.

Any advice on what to do would be very much appreciated :)

As we tend to major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Register there (but please note that a hotmail address won't work) and post a new thread; here's your link:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=30

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.

PePiPoo has an excellent success record in dealing with council tickets.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

  • Thanks very much for the point Umkomaas! I'll take a look over there and gather info before posting
