I signed up for this the other day and completed some surveys etc. but have now cancelled as I had a phone call the other day supposedly from Euro Millions to give me 10 free lines for this Friday. He wanted my bank account details to continue to play monthly for £39 but I stopped him there and didn’t go ahead with it as I wasn’t comfortable with giving out my bank details nor do I gamble regularly.
Thing is, he knew my DOB, full name and address already as he asked me to confirm it, and now I’m worried about identity theft. He was very plausible at first. He told me his name was Alex Williams, phone number 0203 000 7642 – email: support@onlinelottos.co.uk.
I can only think he got my details somehow through an affiliate with 20cogs or UKmysteryshopper as they were the ones I signed up with.
Please be careful.

Easy way to pinch someones personal details :

"Hi, its xxxx calling from xxx - before we continue can you just pass some security questions ..

Can you confirm your full name , date of birth, first line of address and postcode" ..

Just because he asked you to confirm it - It doesnt mean he already had it !!

    Beware !!
  • Shocking. I have recently cancelled all my cards, have lined my wallet with foil and burnt my driving licence. I cannot be too careful.

UKMysteryShopper is a scam, they've been at it for years. They claim you get a £100 voucher for a review. If it's too good to be true!
  • NEVER tick the box giving them permission to pass your "details" onto 3rd parties, affiliates, partners etc.

Most of the online surveys are just collecting your information in order to sell it on. Knowing your likes/dislikes etc makes your name and address more valuable.

Plus don't give them your telephone number - if it's mandatory I usually find 0123456789 works fine.

Is anyone else getting concerned about the increase in forms' asking (insisting) on a full date of birth for no good (financial) reason? on the odd occasion, in the past, I have just made one up but I have had several occasions recently, for a store loyalty card, a competition and buying something online, none of which included any 'credit' element so i have decided now to inform the companies that I will no longer deal with them as the are asking for unneccesary 'personal' information!I appreciate that they like there demographics for marketing but don't need it to the exact day.

I agree with this - can't see why just an age range wouldn't be sufficient.
Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.67
  • I must admit to not putting my correct phone number when I've ordered something, unless its to be for a driver delivering then the email is sufficient.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
