Royal Mail Sending Large Letters to US

Hello,

I've just been to the post office where I was told my Large letter sized item would have to go as a small parcel as I had a customs label on it claiming it was goods (Other was ticked).

I've been to other post offices and there was never the case. So I'm bit annoyed I've been charged an extra £2 per item.

Anyone know the rules here? If it's large letter sized but contains goods does it need to go as a small packet?
Should I just not have put a customs (C22) label on it?

More woefully untrained PO staff, some believe that you cannot send goods in a LL, which is incorrect.

I would have taken their name & complained to the PO CS & moved onto another PO.

Anything outside the EU requires a CN22

Our local PO doesn't have a problem with sending goods this way. They do write Large Letter on the top of the envelope and insist it needs a document such as the Ebay invoice in it, to make it eligible to go as a large letter.

I've said before that I thought it would be a good idea for Which! or Watchdog to take a 249g large letter to various post offices and see the disparity in prices charged. I'm often shocked at how much they get some people to pay for post.

It's pretty clear. Any post office staff that doesn't know this is way back in the dark ages and needs some "retraining".
