Re-painting Kitchen Cupboards

Options
Hi all

I'm fed up of my dull kitchen, which isnt exactly huge, & I can't afford to buy new doors & units so I am going to re-paint my existing doors & units.

They are a darkish wood colour & I think I would like to go a lighter colour but I am unsure what the best type of paint will be... can anyone help?

Thanks

Dwy raff yn cydio’n ddolen,
Dau enaid ond un taith.

It depends upon the material from which they are made. Vinyl wrap, probably not able to be painted but someone will correct me. shiny finish - like Melamine it can be done using the correct paint. Auntie Google suggested this one but I am sure there are loads more.

Make sure you clean them thoroughly, you can then use Zinnser BIN as a primer followed by a top coat of your choice. Satins and eggshells tend to best.

We did this at our old house. Would recommmend: -

    Zinsser Bulls Eye 123
Farrow and Balls Eggshell Paint - http://www.farrow-ball.com/estate-eggshell/content/fcp-content

Preparation is key. We used Polycell Liquid Sanding and then use a light grade sand paper. Once that's done use bulls eye and then farrow and ball. Take your time if you rush it the finish will come out rubbish.

I have repainted my cabinets. I used Annie Sloan chalk paint which is great as there is no need to rub down or prime. Topped with wax I think it leaves a nice finish and have had compliments on it.

Can't add a link but uploaded a pic to Pinterest with the description'annie sloan chalk paint on ikea cabinets' if interested to see what it looks like.

I use Everlong chalk paint, much the same as Annie Sloan, but cheaper, then use polyvine varnish to seal them. As above said, no need for prep other than a clean. It goes on lovely and I keep brush set for second coat and it gives a much smoother finish.
