Travel to USA - what does a Brit need..?

If I am looking for a flight I always do initial research on sites like Skyscanner, Kayak, etc. I then click through to see if the prices are "genuine". I look to see if the agent is ABTA/ATOL registered, etc, then go and book via the Flight Centre who will either match or beat the cost if the agent they're matching is ABTA/ATOL registered. If it's a codeshare flight they've also been really good at getting me on a flight at a time with a preferential airline (so if it's Delta/Virgin they'll make sure I am on a Virgin flight not a Delta one).
I've used the Flight Centre for years and never once had a problem. They've bent over backwards to help and sometimes even managed to find better priced flights than I had. Some can also provide advice on best airport to fly into (they did this when I was looking to fly to NY). Cannot recommend them highly enough.0 -
I just applied for my ESTA. Slight panic when I got the message that said it would take 72 hours to decide but 3 mins later I was approved. Was slightly astonished that the questions asked if I had the plague but felt confident in saying 'no'.0

You might need two credit cards as the US credit card system is a bit capricious rather than systematic, at least about acknowledging UK cards. They may ask you for a zip code (try giving your hotel's), a signature, or a PIN number, or may just decline you (occasionally).
You may have to write a tip value in your credit card receipt in service situations (mainly restaurants).
There's a weird thing about American prices. There's always something starting with T to add to the bill; e.g. Tolls, Tips and Taxes. Nobody'll mention them until the bill arrives,There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
