I am aware of the facts; how many areas operate this 5 year rule?

My local authority do, and also the LA for the town I used to live in

Everywhere I've lived it's normally 5 years in the area, a connection to the area in the form of close family or you work in the area.

That has applied to, Guildford, Runneymede, Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, and Ealing I haven't checked out my current area as I can afford to rent up to a three bedroom house so I don't really need social housing.
