Mystery Credit - how to trace?

Have been receiving a mystery credit into my account on a quarterly basis for some years now - it only amounts to about 120 pounds a quarter but its still very welcome. I have asked my bank to trace it but to no avail. I assumed it must be some kind of annuity I set up years ago and lost track of. The reference number consists of 7 numbers 2 letters then 7 more numbers and the amount varies by a few pounds each quarter.
It has been coming in on the 29th or 30th each month without fail however the last payment hasn't arrived when it should have. I'm a little concerned as now (thanks to MSE) my finances are balanced each month and I'd miss this payment.
Could the missed payment be related to the Postal Savings Strike or something more sinister?
How can I find out where this credit is coming from once and for all so I can contact the institution directly?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Your bank would be able to trace where it's coming from, at least as far as the sort code and account number of the account that's sending the payment. Then I guess you might need to write to that bank, asking them to pass the letter on to the account holder.0

So you have no idea why you're getting the money, but you're spending it and dependent on it. Now its stopped you're concerned
